About
ll Om Namah Shivay ll
Arunachaleshwar temple was built by the Chola dynasty in 9th century.
Legends say that once Goddess Parvati playfully shut the eyes of Lord Shiva just for a second. And, all light was taken from the universe, and earth was submerged in darkness for years. Parvati performed penance with other devotees of Shiva, and her husband appeared as a column of fire at the top of Annamalai hills, returning light to the world. He then merged with Parvati to form Ardhanarishvara, the half-female, half-male form of Shiva.Annamalai hill is considered sacred and because it represents Lord Shiva Himself in the form of Lingam.

The temple has six daily rituals from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
