History and Importance

Tarapith Temple is a Shaktipeeth temple dedicated to the worship of Maa Tara, a manifestation of Goddess Shakti or Kali. It is located at Tarapith, West Bengal - a holy town dedicated to Maa Tara.

 According to legend, after Sati jumped into the sacrificial fire due to her father’s insult of Lord Shiva, Lord Shiva became furious and carried her charred body parts, which fell at different places that are the location of Shaktipeeth temples. Tarapith is considered to be one of the most revered Shaktipeeth temples in the country.

Each year, thousands of Hindu visitors from all corners of the world visit this temple everyday  to have a darshan of the famous image of Maa Tara. There are many rituals held at this temple throughout the day which are purifying experiences for the souls of the devotees.
